Geriatric Psychiatry

The geriatric psychiatry program at Chestnut Ridge Center provides short-term inpatient treatment to seniors, ages 55 and older, who live at home or in nursing or rehabilitation facilities.

Chestnut Ridge Center is a secured environment that provides acute care treatment for older adults experiencing:

• depression
• severe anxiety
• fearfulness
• bipolar disorder (mood swings with mania and depression)
• panic disorder
• adjustment disorder (being overwhelmed by new life situations)
• mild dementia

Patients diagnosed with schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders may also be considered if they have demonstrated the ability to benefit from participation in adult discussion.
