Trauma Our orthopaedic trauma service is an essential part of our emergency services at West Virginia University Hospitals. Staff members maintain 24-hour coverage in the Emergency Department to help care for trauma patients. We provide expert care for patients with severe musculoskeletal injuries and related complications. We provide acute trauma care as well as consultative and support services to patients with multiple injuries, including complicated fractures, poly trauma, malunion, nonunion, pelvic fractures, and soft tissue injuries. The Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center at Ruby Memorial Hospital is West Virginia's only nationally certified Level 1 trauma center, providing tertiary care and serving as a resource for the state and surrounding region. Level 1 trauma center designation means that the facility serves as a comprehensive regional resource and includes total care for every aspect of injury, from prevention through rehabilitation.
