WVU Healthcare celebrates volunteers

April 21-27 is National Volunteer Appreciation Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Healthcare will be recognizing the efforts of the hundreds of volunteers who generously donate their time during National Volunteer Appreciation Week, which runs from April 21 through 27.

Last year, 514 volunteers provided more than 24,000 hours of service to the patients and visitors at WVU Healthcare. Volunteers are stationed at various locations throughout WVU Healthcare, including the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center, the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, WVU Cheat Lake Physicians, Emergency Department, Rosenbaum Family House, WVU Children’s Hospital and several others. Volunteers range in age from 14 years old to senior citizens.

“I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who contribute their skills and talent to WVU Healthcare. Your contributions have enhanced the quality of our care and have made a difference in the lives of our patients, families and visitors,” Bruce McClymonds, president and CEO of WVU Hospitals, said. “I am always inspired by the stories that highlight the impact these individuals have on our organization every day.”

To celebrate the work of the volunteers, WVU Healthcare’s Volunteer Services Office has a week full of activities planned. Volunteers will be treated to bag lunches and opportunities to win prizes. They will also receive “Smile Cards,” notes of appreciation from the areas in which they volunteer.

In addition, Friends of WVU Hospitals, made up of volunteers, will hold its annual meeting and luncheon from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, at the WVU Erickson Alumni Center. Volunteer Service Hour Awards will be handed out during the luncheon.
