WVU Healthcare Expo to be held on Oct. 5

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Get your health questions answered, talk with experts or take advantage of the health screenings at the 2012 WVU Healthcare Expo, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5 at the Morgantown Mall.

This year’s expo will feature 47 exhibitors from different departments and programs at WVU Healthcare, WVU Health Sciences and other affiliated organizations, making this one of the area’s largest wellness events.

“Each year, we provide about 4,000 health screenings at the event, mostly free,” Stephanie Bock, director of community relations, said. “Whether someone receives a good test result or finds out he/she has to address a health issue, the Expo saves and improves lives.”

The seasonal flu vaccine will be offered for $25 to anyone 8 years and older by WVU Cheat Lake Physicians. WVU Healthcare experts will be there to answer questions about mental health, strokes, substance abuse, weight management, lung disease and other topics.

The Expo will be offering numerous free services, some of which normally cost hundreds of dollars, including:
•    bone density, blood pressure, glaucoma, breast health, glucose, vision and carotid artery screenings
•    individual health assessments focusing on heart burn, stroke risk and other conditions

For some of the screenings and services provided at the Expo, such as blood screenings, pre-registration is preferred. There is a $35 fee for the multiphasic blood test and a $15 fee for the PSA blood test. To register for these screenings, call 800-982-8242.

The Expo will also be offering free chair massages, an opportunity to meet Monti, the Mountaineer Bear, the Hearts of Gold service dogs, a chance to win a recumbent bike and much more.
