Women on Wellness retreat to be held on July 21

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health is helping women add joy to their health by offering a Women on Wellness (WOW) retreat from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 at Heston Farm on Tulip Lane in Fairmont.

WOW is an interactive one-day program designed to help women make positive, lasting lifestyle changes that include preventive measures.  WOW believes that no two women are the same and thus teaches each participant how to develop and prioritize a personalized set of strategies and goals.

The day’s sessions will include health screenings, yoga, Zumba, meditation, massage, nutrition, kayaking, heart health, financial health and wellness in general. All are offered in a safe, non-judgmental environment.  The activities are offered by experts from the local community. This will allow participants to follow-up on a newfound sport, program and/or healthcare provider. Participants receive a guidebook written specifically for the WOW program and a journal to support their ongoing efforts after the program.

“West Virginia ranks near the bottom in almost all health statistics. By helping women make positive changes, we can impact not only their lives but the lives of their families and the community,” Betty Critch, Center executive director, said. “It is the program’s hope that each participant will leave with a renewed sense of commitment and motivation to continue the process. The program encourages smart goals with small, attainable steps. We hope women will start with an idea of what they want to do, plant it and then do it.”

Registration is $50 and includes health screenings, a healthy breakfast and lunch, a journal and a behavioral guide book, “Make ‘It’ Happen for You.” WOW registration is free for military personnel and military wives in honor of their service or their family member’s service. Scholarships are available. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Those interested in participating can register online at www.wowicandoit.com or call 304-293-0946.
