WVU Healthcare to have United Way Luau Aug. 24

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Palm trees, clear blue waters and sandy beaches are miles away so the tropics are being brought to this year’s WVU Healthcare United Way Luau on Friday, Aug. 24. The event is open to WVU Healthcare employees and members of the community.

Festivities will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in WVU Healthcare’s East-West Concourse located outside near the Gold-South Parking Garage (Farmer’s Market Location) and from 1 to 3:30 a.m. in the cafeteria on the fourth floor of Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Employees and visitors may purchase raffle tickets ($1 each or $5 for six) for the opportunity to win prizes such as a weekend at Dorsey’s Knob, WVU football tickets, Steelers tickets, a signed WVU football, a variety of themed gift baskets and much more.

This year WVU Healthcare has been selected to be a pacesetter for United Way. Each year, a select group of high performance businesses take on the challenge to “jump start” the annual campaign by becoming a pacesetter. These organizations set the standard for leadership and community support by locking in their increased campaign donations during the summer months.

“What we do as a pacesetter is establish momentum and really try to get money raised early,” Brad Foringer, administrative director of Respiratory Care Services and Pulmonary Function at WVU Healthcare and co-chair of the United Way Campaign, said. “We’re trying to give this money to both Preston and Monongalia counties to make an impact and to make sure we support the people that are out there that really need help.”

Low-priced refreshments will be available, including popcorn, chips, cotton candy, hot dogs and more. To cool off, non-alcoholic tiki bar frozen drinks and Cold Stone Creamery ice cream will be available.
