Little General/BP donates more than $6K to cancer research at WVU Health Sciences

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Little General Stores, Inc., along with British Petroleum (BP) has donated $6,250 to the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment Fund at WVU’s Mary Babb Randolph Cancer CenterWVU men’s basketball Coach Bob Huggins established the fund in memory of his mother, who died of cancer.

Little General applied for a $12,500 grant from BP, a global gas and oil company, to benefit two charities – the Huggins Cancer Research Fund and Toys for Tots. BP has a Fueling Communities Program that provides grants to local organizations that support health, education, youth, food and housing.

“Little General is proud to be able to support the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment Fund at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. There are many people affected by cancer in the communities across the state of West Virginia. We are committed to the fight against cancer and plan to keep going and do even more good in supporting this cause dear to West Virginians,” Greg Darby, president of Little General Stores, Inc., said.

“Little General is one of the best partners I could hope for in the fight against cancer,” Huggins said. “And the best part of all is that their support is advancing research right here in West Virginia.”

Little General also partners with the Remember the Miners organization for joint fundraising to support the organization’s Scholars Program as well as the Huggins Cancer Research Fund.  Since September, that partnership has raised more than $100,000 for cancer research at WVU.

Little General’s next joint fundraising event will be the Bob Huggins Fish Fry, which will be held the Friday, Aug. 31 during the Friends of Coal Bowl weekend at the Morgantown Event Center.  For more information see www.remembertheminers.org.
