Upshur County teen’s design featured in 2011 Cards of Hope collection

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Savannah Stalnaker, 16, of Buckhannon is a featured artist in the 2011 edition of Cards of Hope.

The cards are the main funding source for the Cure Kids Cancer Fund, a project of West Virginia University Children’s Hospital that ensures patients are provided state-of-the-art medical care, as well as psychological and social support for them and their families. Card sales also benefit the Beads of Courage program, which allows pediatric cancer patients the opportunity to tell their cancer stories through strings of beads.

Savannah was diagnosed with medullablastoma, a brain tumor, in 1997. Her mom, Cindy, said, “Savannah has fought this battle with guts and determination. Through all the chemotherapy and radiation, her doctors and nurses were there for her. Since her last tumor dissection of a benign brain tumor in February 2006, Savannah has been healthy and happy, living with her forever family and putting her everything into life.”

Currently, Savannah, Cindy, and dad Tim are living the snowbird life in Winter Haven, Fla. Savannah is a freshman at Karen M. Siegel Academy in Lake Alfred, Fla., and enjoys riding her bike, walking her dog, visiting with friends, playing at water parks and going to Walt Disney World.

Her card, “Seasons Greetings,” is sponsored by The Kroger Co. It features a reindeer, candy cane, snowman, wreath and Christmas tree. Cindy said Savannah “designed a card with all her favorite things of Christmas. She loves the Christmas season and enjoys the decorations and lights.”
