Rotary Screenings offered at WVU Healthcare Expo

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Healthcare Clinical Laboratories and the Rotary Club of Morgantown are teaming up to offer low-cost health screenings. Multiphasic and PSA blood tests are available to visitors at the 2011 WVU Healthcare Expo at the Morgantown Mall on Friday, Sept. 16 from 6:30 a.m. to noon.

The multiphasic screening includes 15 baseline blood analyses, including cholesterol checks. Results can help identify current or potential health problems, such as coronary artery disease, anemia, diabetes and kidney disease. For the most accurate results, multiphasic participants should not eat, drink or smoke for 12 hours prior to the screening.  Medication can be taken with sips of water.

The PSA test measures a substance called prostate-specific antigen made by the prostate – a small gland that sits at the base of the bladder. It’s normal to find small quantities of PSA in the blood, and levels tend to gradually rise in men over the age of 60. PSA may become elevated due to infection, enlargement of the prostate or cancer.

There is a $35 fee for the multiphasic blood test and a $15 fee for the PSA blood test.  Pre-registration for these screenings are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.  To register, call the WVU HealthLine at 1-800-982-8242.
