19th Annual September Stride on Sept. 17

Profits will benefit children with pulmonary problems

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Runners and walkers will hit the pavement at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 for the annual September Stride. Now in its 19th year, the 5K run and walk is sponsored by WVU Healthcare’s Rehabilitation Services Department.

The entry fee is $18 for the general public and $15 for employees of WVU Healthcare and WVU Health Sciences.  After early registration and on race day, the cost is $20 for the general public and employees. The first 200 registrants will receive a T-shirt.

The race will begin and end in the parking lots between Ruby Memorial Hospital and Mountaineer Field. The 5K course is a rolling, two-loop course with one water stop and mile split times.

There will be three races for children, including two short-distance races for younger participants and a 1K for older kids. Those races begin at 10 a.m. Children must be at least 1 year old to participate. Arts and crafts activities will also be provided for kids.

September Stride benefits the Richard Rosenbaum Memorial Fund, which provides medication and equipment to children with cystic fibrosis and other pulmonary problems. The fund is named after Richard “Rick” Rosenbaum, who was treated for cystic fibrosis at WVU from the time he was born until he died at age 36. His family is responsible for creating the fund, as well as the Rosenbaum Family House, which provides a place for adult patients and their families to stay while receiving medical treatment at WVU Healthcare.
