Eighth Annual Sprint, Splash ‘n Spin triathlon is Aug. 27 & 28

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Hospitals’ annual Sprint, Splash ‘n Spin triathlon will take place Aug. 27 (for children under 14) and 28 (for adults and teams) at Marilla Park and pool. Proceeds from the triathlon will benefit Mon County Habitat for Humanity.

The community event not only raises money for Habitat for Humanity, but it also highlights Morgantown’s recreational facilities and encourages people to exercise.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, Aug. 18 at noon. Entry fees range from $20 for kids, $27 for team members, and $47 for adults.

Participation is limited to 300 individuals and 60 teams. The number of participants is unlimited for the kids’ race. Triathlon teams can include all male, all female, mixed and family participants who will swim, bike and run during the event.

When the triathlon takes place on Aug. 28, the following roads will be closed: White Avenue (including bridge), Deckers Creek Road (in front of the Department of Motor Vehicles’ office, runs from Green Bag Road to Earl Core Road) from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., and East Brockway (runs from ball park fields through park) from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Volunteers are needed for this event. To volunteer, please show up for a one-hour orientation meeting Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at Marilla Center. The first 150 volunteers will receive an event t-shirt and will be eligible for door prizes.
