Let’s talk about health: WVU Department of Community Medicine to hold poster session

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Community Medicine will host its eighth annual Student Poster Presentation Session at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27 at the Health Sciences Center Cafeteria.

The session features more than 150 health-related poster presentations from both undergraduate and graduate students. Classes participating in the event include women’s health, men’s health, gender and violence and environmental health.

Unique and interesting student research is showcased each year. Topics include human trafficking, different types of cancers in men and women, body modification, assessments of environmental contributors to asthma and autism. Students will be there to discuss their topics and answer questions.

“We encourage students, faculty, staff and the community to come out and enjoy an evening of discussion and enlightenment about numerous health topics,” Ruth Kershner, Ed.D., associate professor in the Department of Community Medicine, said.

Christopher Colenda, M.D., chancellor for WVU Health Sciences, will deliver the opening remarks. There will also be a service donation to the Mountaineer Community Kitchen on behalf of several classes at the Health Sciences Center.
