Basketball tournament to benefit WVU Children’s Hospital

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rite Aid Pharmacy stores in the Charleston area will sponsor a single-elimination basketball tournament to benefit West Virginia University Children’s Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network on May 15 at the South Charleston Community Center

Five-man teams (age 14 years and older) will play for a grand prize of $500. The entry fee is $100 per team. Admission is $2. Prizes will be given throughout the event.

In 2009, more than 65 children from the Charleston area spent at least one night in WVU Children’s Hospital. Many of those children were patients of Dr. Robert Gustafson, the state’s only pediatric heart surgeon.

WVU Children’s Hospital physicians provide care for children at the hospital in Morgantown and at clinics throughout the state.

Children’s Miracle Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals across North America.

To get involved with the tournament, call Chris Paul, manager of Rite Aid Store #934 on MacCorkle Avenue in Charleston, at 304-550-6812 or Lora Edgell, Children’s Miracle Network director at 304-598-4346 ext. 2.
