Hug-A-Bear to be sold at WVU basketball game

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Hug-A-Bear, the newest WVU-themed stuffed animal in the Monti Bear series, will be available for purchase at the WVU Men’s Basketball game this week.
The bear will be sold at the Blue Gate of the Coliseum during the game against Ole Miss on Wednesday.

Hug-A-Bear, made by Gund, is the third Monti Bear. In honor of his namesake, Coach Bob Huggins, he wears a coonskin hat, blue blazer and white T-shirt and holds a basketball. Turn his tail, and Hug-A-Bear plays “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

The bear sells for $38.99. A portion of that price tag will be donated to the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Foundation at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at WVU.

The cancer endowment is named for Huggins’ mother, who passed away in 2003. The endowment supports basic and clinical research on colon cancer.

“My family thought this would be a way to not only honor my mother, but to also aid in cancer research and treatment,” he said. “It is imperative that we find a cure for cancer.”

Hug-A-Bear can also be purchased at West Virginia University Hospitals Friends Gift Shop located in the lobby of Ruby Memorial Hospital.
