Ponte honored by national health professional organization

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The American Society of Pain Educators has named Charles Ponte, Pharm.D., of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy its 2009 Academic Pain Educator of the Year.

Ponte is a professor in the Departments of Clinical Pharmacy and Family Medicine. He was chosen based on his dedication and commitment to pain-management education. Ponte also helped with development of the group’s Certified Pain Educator (CPE) credential examination.

The American Society of Pain Educators is a nonprofit professional organization dedicated to improving pain management by providing a standard for certification – the CPE credential.

The organization develops and supports pain educators in their role in treating patients and offering pain-related education to clinical peers, patients, families and caregivers.
Ponte has been a faculty member of the WVU School of Pharmacy for 28 years. In addition to clinical work, his research interests include diabetes education and management, gynecologic infections and pain management.
