WVU Hospitals recognized as a childcare-friendly workplace

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Hospitals has earned the “Business on Board with Childcare!” designation from the West Virginia KIDS COUNT Fund.

The designation, which was launched in June, recognizes businesses that support their employees’ childcare needs, signifying WVUH’s adherence to national and local criteria for a childcare-friendly workplace.

In a letter to Sandra Panrell, director of the WVUH Child Development Center, Margie Hale, executive director of KIDS COUNT, wrote, “Your company’s commitment to family-friendly workplace policies shows you care about the needs of your employees and understand that helping them meet their childcare needs is good for kids and good for your business bottom line. As a ‘Business on Board with Childcare!’ you are leading the way and serving as an example for all West Virginia companies.”

The award criteria have been adapted from a list developed by the Families and Work Institute and KIDS COUNT’s statewide efforts to get parents, childcare providers and community leaders involved in advocating for better childcare policies.

To achieve this designation, employers must comply with certain criteria including on-site childcare and financial support of the West Virginia KIDS COUNT Fund.

This fall, local KIDS COUNT ambassadors will host a recognition event for all of the businesses in the area that have achieved the “Business on Board with Childcare!” status. In early 2010, representatives from WVUH will attend a statewide recognition event hosted by KIDS COUNT in Charleston.
