Bridgeport baker ‘takes the cake’ at Rosenbaum Family House Birthday Bash

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Bonnie Belle’s Pastries Inc. of Bridgeport took the top prizes at the Rosenbaum Family House Take the Cake Birthday Bash Aug. 1.

The community event was held in celebration of the 10th birthday of Family House and included entertainment, food donated from area restaurants and caterers, and the “Take the Cake” competition.

Judges made decisions based on appearance and taste while voting by guests determined the crowd favorite. The cake from Bonnie Belle’s, a three-tiered chocolate creation, won first place in both categories.

Cakes With A Personal Touch of Fairmont received second place in the judges’ choice category, while Sharon Dixon of Morgantown took third. All the winners received a gift basket from the Friends of West Virginia University Hospitals Gift Shop.

Rosenbaum Family House is a 21-room and five-apartment hospitality house attached to West Virginia University Hospitals. It was built as the result of Hilda Rosenbaum’s experiences traveling around the country in search of care for her children, Nancy and Richard, who were both diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

To make sure those who traveled to Morgantown for healthcare didn’t have to go it alone as she did, Hilda Rosenbaum’s founding donation combined with the gifts of individuals and businesses in the community resulted in the creation of Rosenbaum Family House, which opened in 1999.

“Nothing has given our family more pride than our role in creating the Rosenbaum Family House. Its mission is close to my heart and so important to families facing illness of loved ones.  Our 10-year birthday is a good time to reflect on where we have been and where we need to go in the years to come,” Rosenbaum said. “The house is always filled to capacity, and we look forward to the people of West Virginia and the entire region raising the money to expand the current space to help more families in need.”
