WVUH offers health screenings Saturday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –  West Virginia University Hospitals has teamed up with the Rotary Club of Morgantown and HealthSouth MountainView Regional Rehabilitation Hospital to offer health screenings to the community including tests for cholesterol and PSA levels.

The screenings will be Saturday (Aug. 15) from 6:30 to 11 a.m. at HealthSouth, 1160 Van Voorhis Road. The screenings are being performed by WVU Hospitals’ Clinical Laboratories.

A multiphasic screening will provide 15 baseline blood analyses, including a check of cholesterol levels. Results can help identify current or potential health problems such as heart disease, anemia, diabetes and kidney disease. For a complete list of tests included in the multiphasic screening see www.health.wvu.edu/multiphasic/index.aspx.

For the most accurate results, participants should not eat, drink or smoke for 12 hours before the multiphasic screening. Medication may be taken with sips of water.

The PSA test measures a substance called prostate-specific antigen made by the prostate – a small gland that sits at the base of the bladder

The cost for the multiphasic screening is $35; PSA, $15. Payment can be made at the time of the screenings.

Walk-ins will not be turned away, but appointments are encouraged. To schedule an appointment, call the WVU HealthLine at 304-598-6100 or 1-800-982-8242.
