WVU to celebrate Graduate Medical Education Week

Events to be held May 26-29

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University will celebrate Graduate Medical Education (GME) Week (May 26-29) with a week full of events.

The week was designated to acknowledge and thank all those who contribute to the GME programs at the WVU School of Medicine, which is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Contributors to the programs include 360 residents and fellows as well as the program directors and residency coordinators for the school’s 50 programs.

This year’s celebration includes two new activities: a research poster competition and a research podium competition.

On May 26, research posters will be displayed in the Health Sciences Center’s ground floor student lounge and will remain on display for the week. On May 29, the podium competition will be held in the Hostler Auditorium from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Winners will be chosen from four categories: basic science, clinical venue, clinical science and education.

The Office of Research and Graduate Education committed funding for the awards in the amount of $5,000. Winners for best oral presentation will receive $500 for first place, $400 for second place and $100 for third place. The winner of the best poster will receive $250.

All winners will be announced immediately following the podium competition.

GME Week activities will also include a lunch buffet on May 26 sponsored by the U.S. Army, a continental breakfast on May 27 sponsored by Clear Mountain Bank and a mid-day snack on May 29 sponsored by Northwestern Mutual.
