Fun 5K Run/Walk is May 2

Proceeds from CARDIAC event to benefit Schools on the Move

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s CARDIAC Project is hosting the second annual Fun 5K Run/Walk Saturday, May 2, at 10 a.m. The race will begin and end at Mountaineer Field. A short-distance race for children ages 3 to 5 and a 1K for kids ages 6 to 9 will take place after the 5K.

“This event is one the whole family will enjoy,” Emily Murphy, a research instructor with the CARDIAC Project, said.

The CARDIAC (Coronary Artery Risk Detection In Appalachian Communities) Project was established in 1998 to address the high illness and death rates from cardiovascular disease in West Virginia.

Registration will take place the day of the race from 8 to 9:30 a.m. between the Ruby Memorial parking lots and Mountaineer Field. The cost to participate is $18 for adults and $12 for children. Those who register before the day of the race will receive a free t-shirt and pay a discounted fee of $15 for adults and $10 for children.

Trophies and prizes will be awarded to participants in all events.

All proceeds will be donated to Schools on the Move, which promotes physical activity programs in West Virginia public schools.
