Earth Day celebration at WVU Hospitals Wednesday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – If you’re looking for something “green” to do on Earth Day – April 22 – consider stopping by WVU Hospitals. You can eat free popcorn, visit 18 exhibitors and drop off old cell phones or used eyeglasses for recycling from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the East Lobby.

Green Fair exhibitors include WVUH Biomedical Engineering, Monongalia County Extension Service, Christian HELP and the Lion’s Club. The Wellness Program, the Dominion Post, WVU Facilities Management and Friends of the Gift Shop will also be on hand.

During the past year Friends of WVU Hospitals Gift Shop collected personal ink/toner cartridges and cell phones, raising more than $1,000.

Newspapers, ink cartridges and new or gently worn tennis shoes can also be dropped off for recycling during the Green Fair.

WVU Hospitals’ “green” efforts in 2008 include:

  • Recycling 70,000 pounds of cardboard
  • Retrofitting lighting throughout the hospital to reduce electric consumption
  • Donating computers to charity rather than sending them to landfills

For employees who work the night shift, a mini Green Fair is planned from 1 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. in the Ruby Cafeteria
