WVU School of Nursing offers community college students easier access

Agreement connects graduates to bachelor’s degrees online

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Students at West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) will now find it easier to transfer seamlessly to West Virginia University’s School of Nursing and pursue their bachelor’s degrees while staying in their home communities.

Under an agreement signed April 2 in Wheeling by the two schools, WVNCC graduates who have earned an R.N. degree will now have available to them all WVU coursework toward the baccalaureate degree in nursing in WVU’s existing “R.N. to B.S.N.” program. Prerequisite coursework has been integrated into the community college curriculum, allowing for direct admission to WVU.

“We are pleased to offer students in the Wheeling area the convenience of staying in their home communities while pursuing higher education in nursing,” said Georgia Narsavage, Ph.D., dean of the WVU School of Nursing. “The new articulation agreement serves the goals of both West Virginia Northern Community College and WVU to expand opportunities in the health sciences and provide more RN/BSN nurses in West Virginia.”
