WVU Hospitals participates in community food drive

Initiatives celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Hospitals will participate in a community-wide drive for food pantries in Monongalia and Preston counties Feb. 9-15 as part of Random Acts of Kindness Week.

For the fifth year, WVUH is partnering with the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties to encourage local businesses and community members to perform random acts of kindness during the week.

In addition to participating in the food drive, several WVUH departments have activities planned:

Chestnut Ridge Center -- On Tuesday, visitors will be served free cookies and wassail in the first-floor lobby area.

  • Child Development Center -- Staff and children will hand out chocolate "hugs and kisses" to parents on Friday.
  • Health Sciences Center Cafeteria -- The cafeteria is collecting dish cloths, tea towels, potholders/mitts, measuring cups, serving spoons and other kitchen items for the Salvation Army’s soup kitchen.
  • Information Technology -- The department is helping WVUH’s Rosenbaum Family House replenish its supplies to support guests staying there.
  • Security -- Officers will hand out candy and Random Acts of Kindness Cards in the parking booth throughout the week.
  • Human Resources and Employee Health -- Staff is collecting nonperishable food items for Bartlett House and clothing for Christian Help.
  • The Wellness Program – The department is holding a pet food/supply drive to benefit the Mon County Canine Adoption Center.
