Melt away the winter blues

Welcome back to WVU with a beach party

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Leave your winter coats at home and get out your flowered shirts.  West Virginia University students are invited to attend a welcome back beach party Jan. 12 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballroom.

The WVU Department of Community Medicine, WVU Student Health Service and WVU Community Medicine Association will be hosting the beach-themed Icebreaker Event, which will be free and open to WVU students.

“We hope that we can provide students with an opportunity to get together in a safe and fun environment as we begin the new semester,” Ruth Kershner, Ed.D., associate professor in the WVU Department of Community Medicine, said.

Kershner said the Icebreaker will give students a chance to meet new people, hang out and listen to music.

The Tom Batchelor Band will be featured at the event. The band covers artists such as Bob Marley, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones and Toots and the Maytals.  The Tom Batchelor Band will also be performing original rock, funk, island and reggae music.

Free t-shirts designed by WVU students, flip-flops, bags and other prizes will be distributed throughout the evening.
