Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute to webcast Thursday, Friday proceedings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –  The Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute (BRNI) located on West Virginia University’s Health Sciences campus will webcast its conference and building dedication events Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. To view the proceedings at those times, see http://webcast.wvu.edu/.

On Thursday the 2008 International Forum on Memory and Memory Disorders takes place at the Erickson Alumni Center. During the webcast, Sen. Jay Rockefeller will deliver the introduction and welcoming remarks. Speaking immediately following is Floyd Bloom, professor emeritus and chairman of neuropharmacology at the Scripps Institute in San Diego. Bloom’s talk is titled “Our View of the Brain and its Afflictions in the 21st Century.”

On Friday the dedication ceremony of the new BRNI building takes place from 10 a.m. to noon.  The ceremony will include remarks by Rockefeller, a first-day-of-issue stamp ceremony and tours of the new building. The U.S. Postal Service will unveil its new Alzheimer’s Awareness stamp.

The research institute was launched by Rockefeller in December 1999 and named after his mother, Blanchette Ferry Rockefeller, who died of Alzheimer’s disease in 1992.
