Second annual Comfort Music Fest to benefit cancer patients

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A mix of blues, bluegrass and Appalachian music will resound from the hills of Chestnut Ridge Park in Bruceton Mills on Saturday, Sept. 6, during a concert to benefit patients at West Virginia University’s Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center (MBRCC).

The second annual Comfort Music Fest will feature headliner Stewed Mulligan, an Appalachian string band that blends old backwoods sound with country rock.  Bluegrass pickers The Halftime String Band will be back along with Tanglewood, a bluegrass and blues band.  The Rust Kings will perform Appalachian stomp-grass.  Two-time national old-time banjo champion Vince Farsetta will complete the lineup.

Gates open at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and may be purchased by calling Lori Mugnano at 304-293-7495.  Tickets are also available at Black Bear Burritos on Pleasant Street in Morgantown.  Tickets at the gate will be $12.50.  Children younger than 12 will be admitted free, but a donation would be appreciated.  Concert t-shirts may be purchased at the event.

All proceeds will go to the Cancer Center’s Comfort Fund that was established to financially assist patient   s being treated at the Cancer Center Clinic.

“The money we raise through the concert will provide temporary, short-term assistance for medications, lodging and other needs and will help relieve the financial stress that many patients experience dealing with a cancer diagnosis and treatment,” said Daniel Elswick, M.D., the onsite psychiatrist for the Psycho-Oncology Program at the MBRCC and the originator of Comfort Fest.  “It’s a great way for the community to support a worthwhile cause and have fun, too.”

The daylong concert also will include several food vendors and a kids’ station.  Concertgoers are welcome to bring lawn chairs.
