Ducatman selected as outstanding woman in science

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Barbara Ducatman, M.D., director of the West Virginia University National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, is the 2008 recipient of the Women in Science and Health Excellence Award.

The Women in Science and Health (WISH) Committee is comprised of campus and community members who pursue a career in science.  Each year the committee selects one member to honor as an outstanding woman.  Ducatman will be formally honored by the WISH at a reception on June 19 in the WVU Health Sciences Learning Center lobby.

“Women play vital roles in science and health fields,” Dr. Ducatman said.  “It’s an honor to be nominated and recognized by other science and health professionals who I admire and respect.”

Award recipients are first nominated by a member of the organization and are then selected based on career achievements and dedication to research, education, mentorship and service.

Ducatman also serves as the chair of Pathology at the WVU School of Medicine.  She is an internationally recognized expert in cytopathology and gynecological pathology.  In April 2008, Ducatman graduated from the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program for Women.  She received recognition from the British Medical Association for her book on basic and clinical science.
