WVU Hospitals Trauma Center sponsors the season’s first Family Night Under the Stars

‘Surf’s Up’ is Friday’s movie feature

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Family Night under the Stars movie series kicks off Friday, May 23, with a showing of “Surf’s Up” at the Hazel Ruby McQuain Amphitheater in Morgantown.

The event is sponsored by the Board of Park and Recreation Commissioners (BOPARC) and West Virginia University Hospitals.

The movie follows a penguin named Cody who journeys from his home in Antarctica to take part in the Big Z Memorial Surf-Off. Cody believes that winning is everything until he meets someone who teaches him that a true winner isn’t always the one who comes in first. This film is rated PG for mild language and some rude humor.

Admission is free. The film begins at dusk (around 8:30 p.m.).

The showing is sponsored by WVU Hospitals’ Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center. Before the movie, Trauma Center staff members will promote water safety. A children’s bounce house will also be available.

“This is oursecond year sponsoring a movie night,” said Becky Cougle, pediatric trauma coordinator at the Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center. “We’re excited to partner with BOPARC for this wonderful opportunity to educate the public about water safety.”

On most Fridays from now through August, a drive-in-style family movie will play on a gigantic screen at the outdoor amphitheater. Attendance at the movies usually reaches around 500, so families are encouraged to arrive early and to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Movies are subject to rain delays and cancellations. Those announcements are made on WVAQ, WAJR and WKKW radio stations. For more information on Family Night Under the Stars, visit www.boparc.org.
