WVU students organize Dance Marathon to benefit WVU Children’s Hospital

Morgantown, W.Va. – West Virginia University students will dance the night away to raise money for WVU Children’s Hospital patients during Dance Marathon 2008, March 7th and 8th at the Mountainlair in Morgantown.

More than 100 student volunteers have pledged to stay awake and on their feet for hours to raise money that could help save the lives of sick and injured children. During the event, participants will visit with Children’s Hospital patients, listen to live entertainment, dance, and play games, and enjoy refreshments provided by local restaurants.

Frances Northrup, marathon chair, said the committee is excited by the overwhelming community support and response to this year’s event.“It’s great to see college students willingly give up their Friday night to support WVU Children’s Hospital,” Northrup said.  “The event wouldn’t be possible without the students; their time is essential.”

“The Dance Marathon is a great way to raise awareness of our programs and services,” Cheryl Jones, R.N., director of WVU Children’s Hospital, said.   “We sincerely appreciate the students’ work and energy. Their efforts help support funding for equipment and care that saves the lives of many children.”

Since 2005, WVU students have organized the dance marathon by recruiting volunteers, pledge sponsors and community members to participate in the event.
