WVU Exercise Physiology Club will host Pump N’ Run on April 21st

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Exercise Physiology Club is coordinating its 5th annual Pump ‘N’ Run, which will take place at the WVU Recreation Center, Saturday, April 21 from 8:30a.m.-11:15 a.m.

Assistant Professor Lori Sherlock has helped organize the Pump N’ Run since it began, “It’s an event unlike any other 5K run because it covers cardiovascular, muscular, and tests athletes’ endurance,” she said.

For the pump section of the event, men will bench press 100% of their body weight and women 75% of their body weight. For every repetition achieved, with proper form and no assistance, the participant will receive 30 seconds off of their 5K time. No noticeable rest is permitted during the pump.

The 5K run will take place outdoors, and athletes will be permitted to run, jog or walk the course, which begins in the back parking lot of the WVU Recreation Center, and continues across the Evansdale campus.

After the event, the Exercise Physiology Club will supply refreshments and hold drawings for door prizes along with the Awards Ceremony.

Registration forms for the event can be found at http://www.wvupumpnrun.com, which includes a $15 fee for the general public. All proceeds from the event will benefit the American Heart Association and the Exercise Physiology Club’s Scholarship Fund.
