Gold Blue Game to be Held April 7

Proceeds benefit WVU Children’s Hospital

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The 23rd annual Gold Blue scrimmage game will be held Saturday, April 7, at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown with a 12:30 p.m. kickoff. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the gate on game day.  Proceeds from the game benefit the Child Life program at West Virginia University Children’s Hospital.

Since 1984 the Gold Blue Game has raised more than $500,000 for Child Life - a program that exists to help hospitalized kids cope with the hospital and gain control and mastery over the stress and anxieties of the hospital environment.  Funding from the game helps provide necessary materials for the Child Life program including distraction and medical-play equipment as well as information and materials to help the entire family deal with the hospital environment.

“The Child Life program is essential in making a child’s hospital stay a positive experience,” said Cheryl Jones, director of WVUCH.  “We admit more than 6,600 children each year to WVU Children’s Hospital.  Some of those children adjust well to    being at the hospital.  Others have a very difficult time and are very afraid.  Our Child Life program and our Child Life specialist, Claudia Asvestos, help those children feel more comfortable in the hospital environment.  We are grateful to the WVU Athletic   Department for organizing the Gold Blue game each year.  Their support is fundamental to the Child Life program.”
