WVU Themed Jewelry Available in Hospital Gift Shop

MORGANTOWN -- The Friends Gift Shop of West Virginia University Hospitals is now carrying a Mountaineer line of jewelry designed by Maryland-based Dayna U, which creates exclusive university-themed jewelry.

“It’s done very well, and we have had to reorder already,” said Friends Gift Shop Manager Patricia Antion. “I don’t think there’s a lot out there, in terms of jewelry, that represents the individual schools at WVU as well as the university itself.”

The Mountaineer line of Dayna U jewelry has emblems of the WVU Schools of Dentistry, Law, and Nursing such as the caduceus – the familiar staff, entwined by one or two snakes, which symbolizes the healing professions.

In the initial phase of creating the Mountaineer line, Antion met with Dayna U designers and describes the final product as “a high-end piece,” which parents have been browsing for possible graduation gifts.

Dayna U used natural stones such as blue pearls, lapis, citrine, and jade for the Mountaineer line as well as sterling silver. The jewelry is assembled in the USA and fully licensed by WVU.

All proceeds generated from sales at Friends Gift Shop benefit the patients of WVU Hospitals. Friends of WVU Hospitals is a group of volunteers who support patient care and comfort throughout the hospital.
