WVU Hospitals Goes Wireless

Free Wireless Internet for Patients and Visitors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Hospitals will provide free high-speed wireless internet service to patients and visitors. Supported by Friends of WVU Hospitals, the service will begin Monday, Jan. 22.

“We are pleased that Friends has made it possible for us to provide this service in the hospital,” said Bruce McClymonds, hospital president. “Patients will be able to check e-mail, communicate with friends and family, and keep up on news from home. They’ll also be able to view services offered by the hospital, and the service adds to the overall quality of care and comfort provided our patients.”

The service is available to those with wireless capable computers in patient rooms, lobbies, waiting areas, the cafeteria and the Rosenbaum Family House. To prevent interference with medical devices, the service is not available in intensive care and step-down units.

Wireless capable computers should automatically link to Friends Connect upon opening the internet browser. If a list of wireless networks appears, choose “WVUH FriendsConnect” to access the service.

Users will be asked to read and accept a user agreement before proceeding.

Friends of WVU Hospitals is a group of volunteers who support patient care and comfort throughout the hospital. To learn more about the Friends, go to  www.wvuhgift.com, or visit the Gift Shop on the first floor.
