Bennett Named Vice President of WVU Hospitals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Charlotte Bennett, M.S.N. has been named vice president of human resources at West Virginia University Hospitals, effective today (Nov. 13).

“I am confident that Charlotte will be a very effective leader of human resources in the hospital,” said Bruce McClymonds, hospital president and CEO. “She has a long history of strong leadership here, having progressed through a number of different management and leadership positions.”

Bennett received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from WVU in 1974, and has been employed at WVUH ever since. Most recently, she served as director of nursing systems and special services, serving as the primary contact for nursing practice issues within the hospital. She received her master’s degree in nursing at WVU in 1996.

“It is a tremendous privilege to be part of an organization like WVUH,” Bennett said. “Having worked here in various positions for many years I have seen tremendous growth and change. Although we have become a large organization, the friendliness and warmth of the staff make it feel small, which is a great thing.”

Upon graduation, she joined the neurosurgical unit at WVUH as a staff nurse. She became head nurse of the department and served as a clinical supervisor as well. In 1984, she was named manager of 7 East – neurosurgery, neurology, ophthalmology and vascular. She spent two years as project manager of patient care re-design. In 1996, she was named director of 8 East, medicine, and cardiology on 10 East. She has also served as an adjunct faculty to the WVU School of Nursing since 2001.

“I look forward to my new role and to working with the senior management team and all of the staff, as, together, we meet the challenges of the future health care environment,” Bennett said.
