Thousands Walk ‘100 Miles In 100 Days’ at WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 12th Annual “Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days” campaign concluded with close to 6,000 participants walking at least one mile a day for 100 days.

Sponsored by West Virginia University Hospitals, University Health Associates and the WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days had 227 teams representing more than 3,000 employees and families from the Health Sciences Campus at WVU participate.

“Ninety-six percent, 2,950 out of 3,077 of our walkers, were successful in reaching the goal,” said Dave Harshbarger, wellness manager for the Health Sciences Center. “This is a great response from the community, with so many taking steps to improve their health.”

Community participation reached a total of 41 area businesses with more than 2,600 participants registered.

The winning team at WVUH was Ten East Three consisting of 11 members.  Team captain was Kelly Price.

“We can’t stress enough the importance of regular exercise, “Harshbarger said. “This was a great opportunity for participants to exercise and do something healthy with their friends and families.”
