Cards of Hope Party Marks 15th Year

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Young cancer patients, their families and friends will meet at Valley Worlds of Fun in Fairmont on Saturday, June 3, for the 15th annual U.S. Cellular Cards of Hope Summer Party.  The event is a joint project of West Virginia University Children’s Hospital and the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center.

Participants will begin drawing their favorite holiday pictures at 10 a.m., then break for lunch before enjoying all the rides and games at the entertainment facility.  A special visit from Santa Claus is also on tap.

Every year a Cards of Hope Committee selects a new set of 10 winning designs from the summer party.  The participants will also get to choose their favorite card drawn at the party.  The ‘Kid’s Choice’ card will become one of the 10 winning designs included in each package.

They will be produced as a pack of 20 greeting cards, in an assorted or single design pack, and later marketed and sold throughout the tri-state area (Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland) by volunteers and by U.S. Cellular stores.

The card sales serve as the primary fundraiser for the Pediatric Cancer Care and Research Fund.  The fund is managed by the Pediatric Oncology Department at WVU Children’s Hospital.

All original designs, including those chosen as part of the 10 designs, will be exhibited throughout the state.  The annual auction of all the original designs is being planned for Saturday, Nov. 4, at Lakeview Resort in Morgantown.
