WVU Cancer Center Names New Development Director

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.— A familiar face has returned to West Virginia University to lead the fund-raising arm of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center.  Will Armistead of Morgantown has been named Director of Development for the Cancer Center.

Mr. Armistead, a 1981 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, worked at WVU for 18 years in three departments.  In 1985 he was assistant director of marketing and undergraduate recruiting for the Office of Admissions and Records, where he coordinated the implementation of the total marketing and recruiting plan designed to attract qualified freshman applicants.

From 1988 to 2000 he held various positions with the WVU Alumni Association, advancing to associate executive director.  He served as chief operations officer, coordinating the marketing, communication and programming functions, and assisted with the development and fund-raising activities of the Association.

In 2000, Armistead joined the WVU Foundation staff as director of athletic development.  He was responsible for the major gift fund-raising efforts for the WVU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Armistead spent the last three years in the banking industry.  He was the financial center manager at Branch Banking and Trust, and most recently the business development officer for First United Bank and Trust (FUBT).

“I am excited about returning to WVU to lead the fund-raising efforts of the Cancer Center,” says Armistead.  “This facility is among the nation’s leading cancer centers and I am very proud to be a part of its future growth and development.”

“I am extremely pleased to have Will join our team as director of development,” says John E. Prescott, M.D., dean of the WVU School of Medicine and interim director of the Cancer Center.  “Will possesses all the leadership, management, operational and communication skills needed for the position.  His track record both at WVU and in the private sector speaks for itself.”
