Arbogast Named WVU Chair of Family Medicine

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Professor James G. Arbogast, M.D, has been appointed chair of the Department of Family Medicine, WVU School of Medicine Dean John E. Prescott, M.D., has announced.

 Arbogast earned his medical degree at WVU in 1976, and completed a residency in family practice at WVU in 1979. He joined the WVU faculty later that year as an instructor of family medicine, and has served as a faculty member at WVU over 25 years.

“Dr. Arbogast’s success as interim chair of Family Medicine has prepared him well for this appointment. But more important has been his lifetime of service to the School of Medicine and the University.” Prescott said.  “Dr. Arbogast has served as an outstanding role model to generations of medical students and residents. His experience in a variety of venues including graduate medical education, information technology and outreach will serve the department and School into the future.

Arbogast’s special interests include graduate medical education, information technology and outreach. He is a three-time recipient of the Department of Family Medicine Award for Excellence in Resident Teaching; a 2002 Finalist for West Virginia Faculty Merit Foundation Professor of the Year; the 2002-03 recipient of the WVU School of Medicine Distinguished Teacher Award and the 2003 recipient of the WVU Outstanding Teacher Award.
