Planned Power Outage to Affect WVU Health Sciences Nov. 5-6

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, including WVU Hospitals, will have a total electrical shutdown from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5-6.

All areas of the Health Sciences Center as well as the Cancer Center, Physician Office Center, Eye Institute and Ruby Memorial Hospital will be without commercial power during the outage. The shutdown is necessary to perform a major upgrade to the electrical switchyard feeding health sciences complex.

Ruby Memorial Hospital will operate on backup generators with a three-day supply of fuel. All power is expected to return to full service by 11 a.m. on each day.

The Physician Office Center, including Pediatrics Group Practice, will be closed to the public both days. The POC Pharmacy will also be closed. In addition, the Clark K. Sleeth Family Medicine Center, located in the Health Sciences Center, will be closed. There are no other clinics scheduled for weekend activity.
