WVU Hospitals to Hold 21-hour `Unite-a-thon’ Oct. 27-28

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Ghosts, goblins, witches and vampires will be hanging out in the Ruby Memorial Hospital lobby Oct. 27-28, collecting money for the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties.

For 21 hours starting at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, West Virginia University Hospitals will hold its annual “Unite-a-thon.”

This event, being held in the hospital’s East Lobby (near the Friends Gift Shop), will promote the United Way and the agencies that it supports. It also gives employees and members of the community the opportunity to make a donation.

There are two ways to contribute. Monetary donations and personal care items will be collected. Pledge cards will be available for those wanting to make a cash donation. There also will be large boxes for individuals to drop off personal care items.

The personal care items will be distributed to area agencies as part of World Kindness Week (Nov. 7-13). Items being collected include toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, deodorant, disposable razors, soap, lotions, shampoo, conditioner, combs, brushes, Q-tips, cotton balls and laundry detergent.

In addition to collecting donations, the Unite-a-thon will feature sales, raffles, games, prizes and costumes.

From 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 27, and from 2-3 a.m. on Oct. 28, employees and members of the community can swing by and get a hotdog, chips and soda for $1. All proceeds will benefit the United Way.

The WVUH volunteers will hold a bake sale in the lobby beginning at 10 a.m., and free popcorn will be available throughout the day.

There will $1 chances on 20 gift baskets, a 50/50 raffle, a pet costume contest, and a variety of games and prizes.
