West Virginia Coaches Tee-off Against Cancer

MORGANTOWN, WV— Dozens of high school and college coaches from throughout the state will participate in the 5th annual West Virginia Coaches Against Cancer Golf Tournament at Snowshoe Resort July 15-16. The event is sponsored by U.S. Cellular, and is a project of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at West Virginia University.

WVU Head Football Coach Rich Rodrquez and his coaching assistants will welcome tournament participants during a dinner and reception at the Clubhouse at the Raven Golf Club, at 7 p.m., Friday, July 15. The 18-hole scramble will begin Saturday morning, with an awards reception that afternoon.

Various friends and supporters of the project, such as Tom Barber, of Tibotec Pharmecuticals, team up with the coaches for the yearly tournament.  “This will mark my fourth consecutive year,” Barber said.  “It’s a great cause. As a former athlete, I’m very glad that all the coaches rally together to show their support of cancer patients.”

Coaches Against Cancer helps create awareness about cancer and raises funds to support educational programs throughout West Virginia.  For more information about sponsorship or tournament registration call Lora Williams-Edgell, director of Annual Giving at the Cancer Center, at (304) 293-0789, or e-mail her at
