Specialist to Address Addiction Among Professionals

Session welcomes health workers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Merrill Norton, R.Ph., will present  "Addiction in the Professions” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at the Ramada Inn in Morgantown.

Dr. Norton is a clinical consultant with the Atlanta Recovering Professionals Program at Metro Atlanta Recovery Residences, Inc. His speech a part of WVU’s 16th Annual Addiction Training Institute.

"Dr. Norton is nationally known for his work in the area of chemical dependence treatment for professionals and he is a terrific speaker,” said Dr. Rolly Sullivan, director of addiction services at WVU Hospitals, and co-director of the Addiction Training Institute.

“Between 10-15 percent of health care professionals will experience an addiction problem sometime during their careers,” Norton said. “I want to share my experience with over 1,800 addicted health care professionals and the latest research information on the neurobiology of chemical dependence.”

This presentation is free and open to health professionals. Norton’s appearance  is sponsored by the Thomas and Jean Clark Lecture Series. Continuing education credit is available to social workers, psychologists, nurses, and counselors.
