Local Nurses to Discuss Disaster Preparedness

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A nurse’s role in responding to a disaster will be the focus of West Virginia Nurses Association District 5 annual Evening of Nursing, at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, at the Ramada Inn in Morgantown. National disaster planning expert Captain Ann Knebel, DNS, R.N., will serve as the guest speaker.

Knebel is a senior program management officer in the Office of Planning and Emergency Response Coordination. She served as the primary liaison to the Department of State regarding health and medical preparations for the Summer 2004 Olympic Games. Knebel has also served as one of the Health and Human Services representatives to the interagency group developing the Catastrophic Incident Response Plan, and has attended meetings with the White House Homeland Security Council regarding emergency credentialing of health care providers.

The evening will also include a panel discussion featuring disaster preparedness professionals from several state and local agencies.

Continuing education credits are available for nurses who attend.  Registration begins at 5 p.m. followed by a dinner.  The program will begin at 6 p.m. For registration costs and additional information, contact Gail VanVoorhis, at 293-0298.
