Community Medicine, WVUH to Hold Health Fair at Riverside

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Hospitals has joined forces with the WVU Department of Community Medicine to hold a health fair for the students at Riverside Elementary from 8-10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at the school (the snow date is Monday, March 7).

The fair will include educational sessions on the following topics: environmental health, manners and respect, tobacco, nutrition, yoga, physical fitness and germs.

About 204 students – Head Start through fifth grade – will rotate through each 20-minute session, and each topic will be adapted to the different grade levels.

The following members of the WVU Community Medicine Student Association will help conduct the fair: John Blosnich, Kara Cannon, Janine Dzuba, Jennifer Farmer, Becca Fint, Bethany McCunn, Megan Shope and Yuwen Yue. Faculty members Ruth Kershner, Ed.D., and Toni Morris will also participate, along with Julie Balch Samora, an alumni of the program, and Colleen Harshbarger, yoga instructor.

At the end of the program, there will be a drawing for seven bicycle helmets donated by PATCH (Planned Approach to Community Health).

WVU Hospitals is Riverside Elementary’s Partner in Education.
